GIWA would like to acknowledge founding members of the GIWA Oat Council, Will Carrington-Jones and Chris Maughan who stepped down from the council this month after a combined 40+ years’ service to the oat industry.
In 2011 the GIWA Oat Council transitioned from the WA Oat Alliance, which was formed in the early 1990s. Will was also a founding member of the Alliance and Chris joined in 2007. Will also chaired the Oat Council from 2013-2019.
Outgoing Oat Council Deputy Chair, Ash Wiese said, “the Oat Council has always been one of the most active and engaged grain councils at GIWA, attracting participation from the whole supply chain and we can thank Will and Chris for driving this success.”
Will and Chris have generously contributed their time to our oat industry for the past 20 years and I feel very comfortable that the foundation is strong for the future of oats in Western Australia.”
Other changes to the GIWA Oat Council include Ash Wiese stepping down from his longstanding role as Chair to that of Deputy Chair to make way for Anna-Lisa Newman, a grower from Lake Varley and former Deputy Chair, to step into the Chair’s role. Ash will remain the Oat Council representative on the GIWA Board.
