What a night! Thanks to everyone who joined us for the GIWA Forum this year where we explored the theme Farming for the Future by adapting to changing diets. Following the opening address by Hon Jackie Jarvis MLC, Kathy La Macchia, Grains and Legumes Nutrition Council GM discussed the changing world and evolution of food trends with a shift to more sustainable nutrition and explored what Australians are currently eating and where opportunities lie for the grains industry.
Co-CEO Andrew May, of plant based food and beverage producers Essantis (formally Unigrain), discussed the opportunities for pulse proteins and oat milk in today’s market and their oat milk production facility which is designed to support production of over 50 million litres of oat milk a year.
Finally, Natalie Sarich-Dayton Brownes Dairy CEO and MD gave us an insight into the dairy industry in WA and the challenges faced with the changes in global food trends. Their highly successful Hunt and Brew range has seen them capitalise on the UK market with a launch into over 330 Tesco stores this year and their recent launch of plant based dairy alternatives has ensured Brownes gain a share in the plant based market.
The evening was capped off with a panel session inviting further discussion on the subject followed by a networking sundowner.
Thanks to CBH Group for sponsoring the Forum once again and to all our presenters who shared their knowledge and expertise in thought-provoking and insightful presentations that truly made the event a success. Looking forward to next year’s event.
