The Council of Grain Grower Organisations Limited (COGGO) in Western Australia established the ‘COGGO Research Fund’ to invest in innovative research and development projects to the benefit of the WA grains industry. COGGO’s annual Research Fund investment in R&D plays a major role in assisting WA to maintain its market competitiveness and viability in the grains industry.
Projects can target any part of the WA grain supply chain which benefits WA grain growers. Funding for projects range from $20,000 – $75,000 per annum over a project life of one or two years.
Applications now open for 2025 grant funding
Funding is now available for projects commencing in 2025, up to a maximum value of $150,000 over two years.

2024 funded projects
We are excited to announce four successful recipients for projects commencing January 2024. They are:
- Barley Council, Grain Industry Association of WA ($15,000 over one year) “Development of a business case that quantifies the need for research to establish appropriate receival standard(s) as a measure of malt barley storability”.
- Curtin University ($145,540 over two years) “Co-existence of blackleg and Sclerotinia stem rot disease on canola”
- Farmanco ($65,000 over two years) “Preparing our people for natural disaster mental health management”.
- Stirlings to Coast Farmers ($103,852 over two years) “Measuring herbicide residue and the impact on subsequent grain crops under high rainfall conditions”

The COGGO Research Fund is financed through a voluntary levy collected from WA grain growers who are members of COGGO with the cooperation of grain acquisition and marketing companies. All WA grain growers are eligible to become members of COGGO.
